The Story Behind The Stage Door
Behind the Curtain .....
The Stage Door Choir's logo, featuring a theatre ghost light through a stage door, is a powerful symbol of hope and resilience. The ghost light, traditionally left on when a theatre is empty, was a vital part of the industry’s survival during the pandemic, standing as a beacon of safety and continuity in the dark. Historically, these lights were believed to ward off spirits and ensure the safety of theatre staff after hours, but during Covid, they became a symbol of unwavering dedication to the arts, even in times of uncertainty.
Much like the ghost light's enduring presence, our choir continues to shine brightly, inviting all to join us in making music together and finding light in the darkest times. In this spirit, we encourage you to step through the stage door and be part of a community that, like the light itself, will keep the performance alive, no matter the challenges we face.

A little introduction….
Starting in a small town in Deal, Kent to 3 years training professionally in Essex with Tiffany Theatre College and graduating in 2012.
With over 11 years of experience as a professional actress and singer, and over 7 years as a self-employed performing arts teacher, I am a versatile and passionate performer and instructor. I have danced in an array of shows choreographed by industry professionals, worked on various TV dramas, films, music videos, and performed in West End concerts. I have also taught modern dance, ballroom and latin, tap and performance skills to students of different ages and levels, using my ISTD qualification in dance instruction, professional performance training in singing and acting whilst utilising my certifications in mental health and first aid.
My main ambition is to continue teaching and inspiring others through musical theatre, acting and singing.
I am committed to bringing the joy of music and community to everyone. With a focus on holistic wellbeing, I believe in the transformative power of music and the importance of building a supportive and inclusive community. I ensure that my singers feel valued, supported, and empowered.
Our door is open for those wanting to leave their troubles behind and sing!

"What Our Singers Are Saying"

I really enjoyed my first term at Open the Stage Door. It's a bit like a co-op where the choir members get to shape the music they want to sing with an emphasis on developing your vocal range as well as physical and mental health. You get to sing a range of songs from film, theatre and musicals, focussing on technique, tidbits of music theory and building your confidence in a supportive, relaxed and fun environment. I'd definitely recommend it! Fun and friendly.

This is the perfect choir for musical theatre fans of all ages and abilities. I felt so welcome in the venue, as access has been genuinely prioritised! Everyone is very kind and friendly, it will feel like you've been going for weeks. My favourite element of The Stage Door is that they select SUCH a wide range of songs, not just your typical tunes that most people know - it really sets it apart from the others out there. And, as it is still quite a small team, you get almost 1 on 1 time with the MD so you progress very quickly and get to learn lots more than when you're in a huge group!

I have been searching for an accepting choir for my deeper singing voice (due to medical reasons) as the last choir I was in was not actually inclusive. The Stage Door's founder director Katie and the musical directors were not only accepting of me and my needs, but embraced my uniqueness. I was welcomed from the moment I signed up for a taster, to my first time at the venue and a thank you email the next day. Communication and acceptance is something I have been searching for and have finally found. I would recommend this choir to any who want fun, to sing some amazing songs from the movies and theater and appreciate being accepted for who they are.

Fun choir and great for beginners

I recently had the immense pleasure of joining this small (but mighty!) choir founded by the incredibly passionate Katie, and I cannot express enough how much this experience has touched my heart. From the very first rehearsal, it was clear that this was not just a choir; it was a vibrant community that celebrates inclusivity and fosters an environment where everyone feels valued. Katie's dedication to music is palpable, but what truly sets this choir apart is her unwavering commitment to mental health and creating a safe space for everyone. Here, we share more than just our voices; we share our stories, our insecurities, and our triumphs. In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, this choir is a sanctuary where everyone knows your name and your opinions matter. The camaraderie among choir members is genuinely lovely. Each rehearsal feels like a gathering of friends rather than just a singing session. We dive into singing songs from beloved movies and musicals, and each note brings an overwhelming sense of joy and connection. It’s impossible not to smile while belting out classic tunes with such a talented group of individuals who uplift and inspire one another.I believe wholeheartedly that this choir has incredible potential. The passion that Katie pours into every rehearsal, as well Ollie and the members of course, ignites a fire in all of us, and I can't wait to see how we grow and evolve together. If you're looking for a creative outlet, a supportive community and a place to explore your love for music, I wholeheartedly encourage you to join The Stage Door Choir. This choir is destined for greatness and I am so grateful to be a part of this enchanting journey. Thank you Katie, for creating such a beautiful space for us all; to Ollie for your patience, passion and ensuring we sound somewhat decent and to the members who make it feel like we’ve known each other for years
